Moonlight is often interpreted as a symbol of peace and tranquility. I use this symbolism of the absence of moonlight in the room to illustrate a situation where the harmony is oppressed by uncertain interference. In this piece, I explored various idioms and textures which derive from East Asian musical elements.
This piece is dedicated to Numpark Sribanditmongkol. “Song of bird in desolate mountain” is a Chinese traditional piece for solo erhu describing the scene of a bird in a peaceful valley. This piece was composed by combining the style of traditional Chinese music with glissandi, and an impression for Toru Takemitsu’s music.
In a melancholic moment, as you gaze at the sky, you will see shimmering stars. When you close your eyes, the light from the stars glimmers and illuminates, but that faint light still battles the surrounding darkness.
This work was inspired by the book “The Blind Earthworm in the Labyrinth” by Weeraporn Nitiprapa. It is a melodrama about a shipwrecked relationship. The story can be read either as a nod to old-fashioned Thai romances or as a sophisticated, literary upgrade of the soap opera drama. It can also be viewed as a bitter commentary on the myths, smokescreens, and delusions that seem to have disoriented the Thai people, with many years of heartbreak in attendance.
Tracing is a multiple percussion duet composed in 2022. The initial idea derived from the graphic-generating AI learning procedure called GANs (Generative Adversarial Networks). GANs are algorithmic architectures that use two neural networks, pitting one against the other (thus the “adversarial”), in order to generate new, synthetic instances of data that can pass for real data. They are widely used in image generation, video generation, and voice generation.

In Thai mythology, Mekhala is a famous name tied to the story of lightning and thunder. According to the legend, Mekhala’s beauty and her crystal ball caught the attention of Ramasura. He tried to catch her, but she always managed to elude him. In his frustration, Ramasura threw his axe at her, but she used her crystal to flash back at him, creating lightning. And whenever his axe missed her, it caused thunder.
Suphannamatcha is a character from Thailand’s national epic, Ramakien. She is the daughter of Tossakan, the story’s main villain. In one scene, she tries to stop Rama from crossing the ocean by destroying the stone bridge built by Rama’s army. Hanuman, one of Rama’s allies, finds her and they eventually fall in love.
